Servings: 12-15 bites
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes (including freezing time)
Ingredients:
8 oz goat cheese
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 tsp garlic powder
1 cup vegetable or peanut oil
2 tsp flaky sea salt
2 tbsp honey
2-3 sprigs fresh thyme (optional) for garnish
Instructions:
Line a large plate or baking sheet with parchment paper.
Divide the goat cheese into 12-15 pieces, roll them into balls, and freeze for 30 minutes.
Prepare three dishes: one with flour, salt, and pepper; another with beaten eggs; and a third with breadcrumbs and garlic powder.
Coat each goat cheese ball in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Place on the parchment-lined plate.
Cooking Methods:
Shallow Fry:
Heat 1 cup of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Line a plate with paper towels or set up a wire cooling rack.
Fry the goat cheese balls until golden brown, turning as needed.
Transfer to the paper towels or rack to drain excess oil, and season with flaky sea salt.
Air Fryer:
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Place the breaded goat cheese balls in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they’re not touching.
Lightly spray the balls with cooking spray for added crispiness.
Air fry for about 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Oven Bake:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place the breaded goat cheese balls on the baking sheet in a single layer.
Lightly spray with cooking spray for a crispier texture.
Bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown, turning halfway through for even cooking.
Garnish: Place the goat cheese balls on a serving dish, drizzle with honey, and garnish with fresh thyme leaves.
Additional Tips:
For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the breadcrumbs.
If you don't have goat cheese, cream cheese or feta can be used as a substitute.
Avoid overcrowding the pan while frying to ensure even cooking.
Storing Instructions:
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
For longer storage, freeze the uncooked cheese balls for up to 2 months. Fry them directly from the freezer when ready to serve.
Reheating tips:
Reheat in a toaster oven or regular oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through, about 10 minutes.
